Matthew 1
- 1 The Genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
- 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac; Isaac of Jacob; Jacob of Judah and his brothers.
- 3 Judah was the father (by Tamar) of Perez and Zerah; Perez of Hezron; Hezron of Ram;
- 4 Ram of Amminadab; Amminadab of Nahshon; Nahshon of Salmon;
- 5 Salmon (by Rahab) of Boaz; Boaz (by Ruth) of Obed; Obed of Jesse;
- 6 Jesse of David--the King. David (by Uriah's widow) was the father of Solomon;
- 7 Solomon of Rehoboam; Rehoboam of Abijah; Abijah of Asa;
- 8 Asa of Jehoshaphat; Jehoshaphat of Jehoram; Jehoram of Uzziah;
- 9 Uzziah of Jotham; Jotham of Ahaz; Ahaz of Hezekiah;
- 10 Hezekiah of Manasseh; Manasseh of Amon; Amon of Josiah;
- 11 Josiah of Jeconiah and his brothers at the period of the Removal to Babylon.
- 12 After the Removal to Babylon Jeconiah had a son Shealtiel; Shealtiel was the father of Zerubbabel;
- 13 Zerubbabel of Abiud; Abiud of Eliakim; Eliakim of Azor;
- 14 Azor of Zadok; Zadok of Achim; Achim of Eliud;
- 15 Eliud of Eleazar; Eleazar of Matthan; Matthan of Jacob;
- 16 and Jacob of Joseph the husband of Mary, who was the mother of JESUS who is called CHRIST.
- 17 There are therefore, in all, fourteen generations from Abraham to David; fourteen from David to the Removal to Babylon; and fourteen from the Removal to Babylon to the Christ.
- 18 The circumstances of the birth of Jesus Christ were these. After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they were united in marriage, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
- 19 But Joseph her husband, being a kind-hearted man and unwilling publicly to disgrace her, had determined to release her privately from the betrothal.
- 20 But while he was contemplating this step, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to bring home your wife Mary, for she is with child through the Holy Spirit.
- 21 She will give birth to a Son, and you are to call His name JESUS for He it is who will save His People from their sins."
- 22 All this took place in fulfilment of what the Lord had spoken through the Prophet,
-
23
"Mark! The maiden will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call His name Immanuel" --a word which signifies `God with us' . - 24 When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded, and brought home his wife,
- 25 but did not live with her until she had given birth to a son. The child's name he called JESUS.

Basic Hash Usage Explained
We, at getBible, have a robust system to ensure our API stays up-to-date with the Crosswire project's modules. Let me walk you through how it all works, making sure it all makes sense without any technical jargon.
Our Bible text comes directly from the Crosswire modules. To track any changes, we create what are known as "hash values" for every chapter, book, and translation. Think of these hash values as unique identifiers that change when the content they're associated with changes. This system firmly links getBible with the Crosswire modules.
Every month, a process kicks off that takes about three hours. During this time, we pull the Bible text again from the Crosswire modules and place it into a special repository. We then check if there are any changes by comparing the new hash values and the actual text with the old ones. If we detect any changes, we automatically update our official getBible repository, which holds the JSON API files. This process has been running flawlessly for nearly three years and happens without any human intervention.
Once our official repository is updated, a new event is triggered to push these fresh files to our actual API endpoints, which is https://api.getbible.net/v2/translations.json
. This URL lists all the available translations in our API.
At this point, all the hash values are updated too. So, any application using our API should monitor for changes in these hash values, either on the chapter, book, or translation level. If a change in hash is detected, they should update their systems accordingly.
Changes in hash values may occur due to fixes in the text, such as adding missing verses or correcting spelling mistakes, or any other types of errors detected by the Publishers maintaining the modules at Crosswire.
The Crosswire project, also known as the SWORD Project, is therefore the "source of truth" for getBible. Any change in the Crosswire modules reflects in our API within a few days, ensuring our API always provides the most accurate and up-to-date Bible text. This will continue for as long as getBible exists and we're able to run our build scripts.
Remember, we're all in this together to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the Bible text. So, if you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to open issues in the relevant repositories, and we'll respond as soon as we can.
Thank you very much for your attention and for being a part of our mission at getBible.
