Wisdom 12
- 1 Sillä sinun katoamaton henkesi on kaikissa.
- 2 Sentähden sinä lankeavia rankaiset lempeästi ja varoitat heitä muistuttamalla heille heidän syntejään, että he luopuisivat pahuudestaan ja uskoisivat sinuun, oi Herra.
- 3 Sillä pyhän maasi entisiä asukkaita sinä vihasit,
- 4 koska he harjoittivat mitä inhottavimpia noituuden tekoja ja mitä saastaisimpia jumalanpalvelusmenoja;
- 5 noita säälimättömiä lastensa surmaajia, noiden sisälmystensyöjäin uhriateriaa, jossa syötiin ihmislihaa ja verta, noita salamenoisia heidän remuavan uhrijuhlansa keskellä.
- 6 Ja vanhemmat, jotka surmasivat avuttomat lapsensa, sinä tahdoit hävittää meidän isäimme kätten kautta,
- 7 että maa, joka oli kaikista kallein sinun silmissäsi, saisi Jumalan lapsista arvollisen väestön.
- 8 Mutta näitäkin sinä säälit, koska he olivat ihmisiä; sinä lähetit herhiläisiä sotajoukkosi edelläjuoksijoiksi, että ne vähitellen tuhoaisivat heidät.
- 9 Ei siksi, ettet sinä olisi voinut avotaistelussa antaa jumalattomia vanhurskaitten käsiin, tai hirmuisten petojen kautta taikka ankaran sanan voimalla yht'äkkiä tuhota heitä;
- 10 vaan tuomitessasi vähitellen sinä annoit tilaisuutta parannukseen, vaikka hyvin tiesit, että heidän alkujuurensa oli paha ja heidän pahuutensa syntyperäinen, ja ettei heidän ajatuksensa ikinä muuttuisi.
- 11 Sillä se oli alusta saakka kirottu sukukunta. Sinä et myöskään siitä syystä, että olisit jotakuta peljännyt, jättänyt heitä rankaisematta heidän synneistänsä.
- 12 Sillä kuka uskaltaa sanoa: Mitä sinä olet tehnyt? Tai kuka voi asettua sinun tuomiotasi vastaan? Ja kuka uskaltaa syyttää sinua hävitetyistä kansoista, jotka sinä itse olet tehnyt? Taikka kuka voi nousta sinua vastaan puolustamaan väärämielisiä ihmisiä?
- 13 Sillä ei ole muuta Jumalaa paitsi sinä, joka pitää huolen kaikista, niin että sinun täytyisi osoittaa, ettet ole tuominnut väärin;
- 14 ei voi myöskään yksikään kuningas tai hallitsija nousta sinun silmäisi edessä puolustamaan niitä, joita sinä olet rangaissut.
- 15 Koska sinä olet vanhurskas, niin sinä myöskin hallitset kaikkea vanhurskaasti ja katsot olevan valtaasi soveltumatonta tuomita sitä, joka ei ole rangaistusta ansainnut.
- 16 Sillä sinun väkevyytesi on vanhurskauden alku; ja se, että sinä hallitset kaikkia, saa aikaan, että sinä kaikkia armahdat.
- 17 Sillä sinä osoitat väkevyytesi, kun ei uskota sinun voimasi täydellisyyteen, ja rankaiset niiden röyhkeyttä, jotka sitä eivät tunnusta.
- 18 Ja vaikka sinä olet väkevyyden valtias niin sinä tuomitset lempeydellä, ja hallitset meitä suurella sääliväisyydellä. Sillä kun sinä tahdot, niin sinä voit.
- 19 Tämänkaltaisilla teoilla sinä olet opettanut kansallesi, että hurskaan tulee olla ihmisystävällinen: ja sinä olet antanut lapsillesi hyvän toivon, että suot heille tilaisuutta parannukseen, kun he syntiä tekevät.
- 20 Jos sinä siis rangaistessasi lastesi vihollisia, vaikka he ansaitsivat kuoleman, noudatit niin suurta harkintaa ja kärsivällisyyttä, että annoit heille aikaa ja tilaisuutta luopua pahuudestansa,
- 21 millä huolella tuomitsitkaan lapsiasi, joiden isille sinä valoilla ja liitoilla olit antanut niin ihanat lupaukset?
- 22 Kasvattaessasi meitä kurituksella sinä ruoskit meidän vihollisiamme kymmentuhatkertaisesti, että me itse tuomitessamme ajattelisimme sinun hyvyyttäsi, ja kun meitä tuomitaan, saisimme odottaa armoa.
- 23 Sentähden sinä myös vaivasit niitä väärämielisiä, jotka elivät elämänsä mielettömyydessä, heidän omilla kauhistuksillansa.
- 24 Sillä he olivat eksyneet ylen kauas eksytyksen teillä, ottaen jumalikseen eläimiä, viheliäisempiä kuin vihatuimmatkin niistä ja tulleet petetyiksi kuin älyttömät lapset.
- 25 Siitä syystä sinä lähetit heille, niinkuin ymmärtämättömille lapsille, rangaistuksen, teit heidät pilkan alaisiksi.
- 26 Mutta jotka eivät ota ojennusta pilkkarangaistuksista, ne saavat Jumalalta ansaitun tuomion.
- 27 Sillä juuri niiden kautta, joita vastaan he kärsiessään napisivat, juuri niiden kautta, joita pitivät jumalinansa, he saivat kurituksensa ja oppivat omin silmin tuntemaan totiseksi Jumalaksi hänet, jonka he ennen olivat kieltäneet tuntevansa. Sentähden kohtasikin heitä tuomioista ankarin.
