- 1 พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า “เราจะนำภัยพิบัติมาสู่ฟาโรห์และอียิปต์อีกอย่างเดียว หลังจากนั้นเขาจะปล่อยพวกเจ้าไปจากที่นี่ เมื่อเขาให้พวกเจ้าไปคราวนี้ เขาจะขับไล่พวกเจ้าออกไปทีเดียว
- 2 บัดนี้เจ้าจงสั่งให้ประชาชนทั้งปวง ให้ผู้ชายผู้หญิงทุกคน ขอเครื่องเงินเครื่องทองจากเพื่อนบ้านของตน”
- 3 พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบันดาลให้ประชาชนเป็นที่โปรดปรานในสายตาของชาวอียิปต์ นอกจากนี้บุรุษผู้นั้นคือโมเสสก็ยิ่งใหญ่มากในแผ่นดินอียิปต์ ทั้งในสายตาข้าราชการของฟาโรห์และในสายตาพลเมืองทั้งปวง
- 4 โมเสสประกาศว่า “พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า ‘เวลาประมาณเที่ยงคืน เราจะออกไปท่ามกลางอียิปต์
- 5 และพวกลูกหัวปีทั้งหมดในแผ่นดินอียิปต์ ตั้งแต่ราชบุตรหัวปีของฟาโรห์ ผู้ประทับบนพระที่นั่ง จนถึงบุตรหัวปีของทาสหญิง ซึ่งอยู่หลังหินโม่แป้ง ทั้งลูกหัวปีของสัตว์เดียรัจฉานด้วยจะต้องตาย
- 6 แล้วจะมีการพิลาปร้องไห้ทั่วแผ่นดินอียิปต์อย่างที่ไม่เคยมีมาก่อน และต่อไปภายหน้าก็จะไม่มีอีกเลย
- 7 ฝ่ายคนหรือสัตว์ของชนชาติอิสราเอลทั้งปวงจะไม่มีแม้แต่เสียงสุนัขขู่ เพื่อให้ทราบว่าพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำต่อชาวอียิปต์ต่างกับชนชาติอิสราเอล
- 8 ข้าราชการของพระองค์จะลงมาหาเรากราบลงต่อหน้าเรากล่าวว่า “ขอท่านกับพรรคพวกไปเสียจากที่นี่เถิด” หลังจากนั้นเราก็จะออกไป’” โมเสสทูลลาฟาโรห์ไปด้วยความโกรธยิ่งนัก
- 9 แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสตอบโมเสสว่า “ฟาโรห์จะไม่เชื่อฟังเจ้า เพื่อมหัศจรรย์ของเราจะได้เพิ่มขึ้นอีกในแผ่นดินอียิปต์”
- 10 โมเสสกับอาโรนก็ได้กระทำบรรดามหัศจรรย์เหล่านั้นต่อพระพักตร์ฟาโรห์ และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกระทำให้พระทัยของฟาโรห์แข็งกระด้างไป ท่านจึงไม่ยอมปล่อยชนชาติอิสราเอลให้ออกไปจากแผ่นดินของท่าน
