- 1 Oh fossi tu pur come un mio fratello, Che ha poppato le mammelle di mia madre! Trovandoti io fuori, ti bacerei, E pur non ne sarei sprezzata.
- 2 Io ti menerei, e ti condurrei in casa di mia madre; Tu mi ammaestreresti, Ed io ti darei a bere del vino aromatico, Del mosto del mio melagrano.
- 3 Sia la sua man sinistra sotto al mio capo, Ed abbraccimi la sua destra.
- 4 Io vi scongiuro, figliuole di Gerusalemme, Che non destiate l’amor mio e non le rompiate il sonno, Finchè non le piaccia.
- 5 CHI è costei, che sale dal deserto, Che si appoggia vezzosamente sopra il suo amico? Io ti ho svegliato sotto un melo, Dove tua madre ti ha partorito, Là dove quella che ti ha partorito si è sgravidata di te.
- 6 Mettimi come un suggello in sul tuo cuore, Come un suggello in sul tuo braccio; Perciocchè l’amore è forte come la morte, La gelosia è dura come l’inferno. Le sue brace son brace di fuoco, Son fiamma dell’Eterno.
- 7 Molte acque non potrebbero spegnere quest’amore, Nè fiumi inondarlo; Se alcuno desse tutta la sostanza di casa sua per quest’amore, Non se ne farebbe stima alcuna.
- 8 Noi abbiamo una piccola sorella, La quale non ha ancora mammelle; Che faremo noi alla nostra sorella, Quando si terrà ragionamento di lei?
- 9 Se ella è un muro, Noi vi edificheremo sopra un palazzo d’argento; E se è un uscio, Noi la rinforzeremo di tavole di cedro.
- 10 Io sono un muro, Ed i miei seni son come torri; Allora sono stata nel suo cospetto come quella che ha trovata pace.
- 11 Salomone avea una vigna in Baal-hamon, Ed egli la diede a de’ guardiani, Con patti che ciascun di loro gli portasse mille sicli d’argento Per lo frutto di essa.
- 12 La mia vigna, che è mia, è davanti a me. Sieno i mille sicli tuoi, o Salomone; Ed abbianne i guardiani del frutto di essa dugento.
- 13 O tu, che dimori ne’ giardini, I compagni attendono alla tua voce; Fammela udire.
- 14 Riduciti prestamente, o amico mio, A guisa di cavriuolo, o di cerbiatto, Sopra i monti degli aromati.
