- 1 แล้วพระองค์ทรงเปล่งพระสุรเสียงดังเข้าหูข้าพเจ้าว่า “เจ้าทั้งหลายผู้เป็นพนักงานทำโทษประจำเมือง จงเข้ามาใกล้ ให้ต่างคนถืออาวุธสำหรับทำลายมาด้วย”
- 2 และ ดูเถิด มีชายหกคนเข้ามาจากทางประตูบน ซึ่งหันหน้าไปทางเหนือ ทุกคนถืออาวุธสำหรับฆ่ามา มีชายคนหนึ่งนุ่งห่มผ้าป่าน หนีบหีบเครื่องเขียนมากับคนเหล่านั้นด้วย และเขาทั้งหลายเข้าไปยืนอยู่ที่ข้างแท่นทองเหลือง
- 3 สง่าราศีของพระเจ้าของอิสราเอลได้เหาะขึ้นไปจากเครูบ แล้วซึ่งเป็นที่เคยสถิตไปยังธรณีประตูพระนิเวศ และพระองค์ตรัสเรียกชายผู้ที่นุ่งห่มผ้าป่าน ผู้ที่หนีบหีบเครื่องเขียน
- 4 และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับเขาว่า “จงผ่านไปท่ามกลางนครนั้นให้ตลอด คือตลอดท่ามกลางกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม และทำเครื่องหมายไว้บนหน้าผากของประชาชนที่ถอนหายใจ และร่ำไห้เพราะสิ่งที่น่าสะอิดสะเอียนทั้งสิ้นที่กระทำกันท่ามกลางนครนั้น”
- 5 และพระองค์ตรัสกับคนอื่นๆซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้ยินว่า “จงผ่านไปตลอดนครตามชายคนนั้นไปและฆ่าฟันเสีย นัยน์ตาของเจ้าอย่าได้ปรานี และเจ้าอย่าสงสารเลย
- 6 จงฆ่าให้ตายทั้งคนแก่ คนหนุ่มๆ สาวๆ ทั้งเด็กๆ และผู้หญิง แต่อย่าเข้าใกล้ผู้ที่มีเครื่องหมาย และจงเริ่มต้นที่สถานบริสุทธิ์ของเรา” ดังนั้นเขาจึงตั้งต้นกับพวกคนแก่ผู้ซึ่งอยู่หน้าพระนิเวศนั้น
- 7 แล้วพระองค์ตรัสกับพวกเขาว่า “จงกระทำให้พระนิเวศเป็นมลทิน จงทิ้งผู้ที่ถูกฆ่าให้เต็มลาน จงไปเถิด” เขาทั้งหลายจึงออกไปและฆ่าฟันที่ในนคร
- 8 ต่อมาขณะที่เขากำลังฆ่าฟันอยู่นั้นเหลือข้าพเจ้าแต่ลำพัง ข้าพเจ้าก็ซบหน้าลงถึงดินร้องว่า “อนิจจา องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้า พระองค์จะทรงทำลายคนอิสราเอลที่เหลืออยู่นั้นทั้งสิ้นในการที่พระองค์ทรงระบายความกริ้วของพระองค์เหนือเยรูซาเล็มหรือ”
- 9 แล้วพระองค์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า “ความชั่วช้าของวงศ์วานอิสราเอลและยูดาห์ใหญ่ยิ่งนัก แผ่นดินก็เต็มไปด้วยโลหิต และความอยุติธรรมก็เต็มนคร เพราะเขากล่าวว่า ‘พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงทอดทิ้งแผ่นดินนี้แล้ว และพระเยโฮวาห์ไม่ทอดพระเนตรอีก’
- 10 สำหรับเรา นัยน์ตาของเราจะไม่ปรานี และเราจะไม่สงสาร แต่เราจะตอบสนองตามการประพฤติของเขาเหนือศีรษะของเขาทั้งหลาย”
- 11 และดูเถิด ชายคนที่นุ่งห่มผ้าป่านหนีบหีบเครื่องเขียนนั้น ได้นำถ้อยคำกลับมากล่าวว่า “ข้าพระองค์ได้กระทำตามที่พระองค์ทรงบัญชาข้าพระองค์ไว้นั้นแล้ว”
