- 1 จงเตือนเขาให้นอบน้อมต่อผู้ปกครองบ้านเมืองและผู้มีอำนาจ ให้เชื่อฟังบรรดาพนักงานฝ่ายปกครอง และพร้อมที่จะปฏิบัติการดีทุกอย่าง
- 2 อย่าว่าร้ายผู้ใด อย่าให้เป็นคนมักทะเลาะวิวาทกัน แต่ให้เป็นคนสุภาพ แสดงความอ่อนสุภาพต่อคนทั้งปวง
- 3 เพราะว่าเมื่อก่อนนั้นบางครั้งเราเองก็โง่เช่นกัน ไม่เชื่อฟัง หลงผิด เป็นทาสของกิเลสตัณหาและการเริงสำราญต่างๆ ใช้ชีวิตอย่างเลวร้าย ริษยา น่าชัง และเกลียดชังกันและกัน
- 4 แต่ว่าเมื่อพระเจ้าผู้เป็นพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเราทรงพระกรุณาโปรด และประทานความรักแก่มนุษย์ปรากฏแล้ว
- 5 พระองค์ได้ทรงช่วยเราให้รอด มิใช่ด้วยการกระทำที่ชอบธรรมของเราเอง แต่พระองค์ทรงพระกรุณาชำระให้เรามีใจบังเกิดใหม่ และทรงสร้างเราขึ้นมาใหม่โดยพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์
- 6 พระองค์นั้นได้ทรงประทานแก่เราทั้งหลายอย่างบริบูรณ์ โดยพระเยซูคริสต์พระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรา
- 7 เพื่อว่าเมื่อเราได้เป็นคนชอบธรรมแล้วโดยพระคุณของพระองค์ เราจะได้เป็นผู้ได้รับมรดกที่มุ่งหวังคือชีวิตนิรันดร์
- 8 คำนี้เป็นคำสัตย์จริง ข้าพเจ้าปรารถนาให้ท่านเน้นเรื่องเหล่านี้ เพื่อคนทั้งหลายที่เชื่อในพระเจ้าแล้วจะได้อุตส่าห์กระทำการดี การเหล่านี้ดีและเป็นประโยชน์แก่คนทั้งปวง
- 9 แต่จงหลีกเสียจากปัญหาโฉดเขลาที่เถียงกัน จากการลำดับวงศ์ตระกูลและการเถียง และการทะเลาะกันเรื่องพระราชบัญญัติ เพราะว่าการอย่างนั้นไร้ประโยชน์และไม่เป็นเรื่องเป็นราว
- 10 คนใดๆที่ยุให้แตกนิกายกัน เมื่อได้ตักเตือนเขาหนหนึ่งและสองหนแล้ว ก็จงปฏิเสธ
- 11 ด้วยรู้แล้วว่าคนเช่นนั้นเป็นคนนอกลู่นอกทางและบาปหนา เขาปรับโทษตัวเขาเอง
- 12 เมื่อข้าพเจ้าจะใช้อารเทมาสหรือทีคิกัสมาหาท่าน ท่านจงรีบไปหาข้าพเจ้าที่เมืองนิโคบุรี เพราะข้าพเจ้าตั้งใจแล้วว่าจะค้างอยู่ที่นั่นจนสิ้นฤดูหนาว
- 13 ท่านจงอุตส่าห์ส่งเศนาสผู้เป็นทนายความกับอปอลโลไปตามทางของเขา อย่าให้เขาขาดสิ่งใด
- 14 ให้พวกเราเรียนรู้ที่จะกระทำการดีด้วยสำหรับความจำเป็นต่างๆ เพื่อพวกเขาจะไม่เป็นคนที่ไร้ผล
