- 1 推罗王希兰派使者来见大卫，给他送上香柏木、石匠和木匠，要为他建造宫殿。
- 2 那时，大卫知道耶和华已经坚立他作王统治以色列，又为了以色列民的缘故，使他的国高举。
- 3 大卫在耶路撒冷又娶了多位妻子，并且生了很多儿女。
- 4 以下这些就是他在耶路撒冷所生的孩子的名字：沙母亚、朔罢、拿单、所罗门、
- 5 益辖、以利书亚、以法列、
- 6 挪迦、尼斐、雅非亚、
- 7 以利沙玛、以利雅大和以利法列。
- 8 非利士人听见了大卫受膏作王统治以色列人，就全体上来搜寻大卫；大卫听见了，就出来迎击他们。
- 9 非利士人来到，侵进了利乏音谷。
- 10 大卫求问 神说：“我可以上去攻打非利士人吗？你把他们交在我手里吗？”耶和华对他说：“你可以上去，我必把他们交在你的手里。”
- 11 非利士人上到巴力．毗拉心来，大卫在那里击败了他们。大卫说：“ 神借着我击溃我的敌人，好像水冲破堤岸一般。”因此他们给那地方起名叫巴力．毗拉心。
- 12 非利士人把他们的神像遗弃在那里，大卫吩咐人用火把它们烧了。
- 13 非利士人又再入侵那山谷。
- 14 大卫又求问 神， 神对他说：“不可在后面追赶他们，要绕过他们，从桑林对面攻打他们。
- 15 你一听见桑林树梢上有脚步的声音，就要出战，因为 神已经在你前面出去击杀非利士人的军队了。”
- 16 于是大卫照着 神所吩咐他的去作，他们攻击非利士人的军队，从基遍起，一直攻打到基色。
- 17 因此大卫的名声传遍各地，耶和华使万国都惧怕他。
